Life's a beach

Excited to be back at the beach!

We finally made it to Puerto Lopez and found a great little hostel full of bungalows each with their own hammock, as well as a great ocean view included with breakfast. Our hostel even came with its very own mischevious yellow lab named Uva (grape). Luke felt instantly more at home with a dog to play with and a beach to lounge on. This was the getaway we'd been hoping for!

The view was pretty great despite the questionable food

Our first day we made the mistake of eating and drinking at one of the many bamboo bar/cafes along the beach, where they most likely use dirty water from the river to wash dishes and in their drinks. No one got severely sick, but after that we stuck to the more toursity choices on the other side of the street. All of us got our fill of seafood by the end of the week and had tried pretty much all of it fried.

One of the best things about traveling in Ecuador is that you can visit extremely different types of terrain in a short amount of time. You can go straight from beaches to mountains to banana fields to volcanoes to rainforests or dry cloud forests in a few short days. Although we had some ideas about what to see around Puerto Lopez, our hostel also conveniently came with a go-to activities coordinator: Eduardo. Starting even before we checked in, Eduardo was consistently approaching us with various tours and things for us to do. He must have been a good salesman or smooth talker, because by the end of the week, we had done almost all of them.
