| A whole park full of iguanas! |
Once leaving the sweet life of Izhcayluma and ending up in humid, loud, cloudy Guayaquil we started to consider why we had ever left in the first place. But Luke, Liz's boyfriend, was flying in from the states and we had to stick around this town at least until he got there. So we spent the day wandering the Malecón, apparently the only safe area in the city, watching floating grass drift by in the water, trying to ignore all the cat calls, and searching for air conditioning. The hostel we chose wasn't exactly the best to hang around in either. Besides the unwanted sauna it created, we also felt we were in the middle of a family dispute the way the staff went off at each other. Needless to say we survived the day and Luke arrived safely from Miami. Time to blow this popsicle stand! But the airlines had lost Luke's bag (which contained many wonderful treats and presents from the states for us) so we assumed we were stuck for another couple of days. Luckily the bag was located the next day and we were able to take a bus onward to see how the coast of Ecuador measured up to Peru.
